In 1988, Abramović and Ulay, her artistic and sentimental partner, decided to take a spiritual journey along the Great Wall of China that would end their relationship. Abramović began walking in Shan Hai Guan, the eastern end on the Yellow River, while Ulay began in Jai Yu Guan, the western end, on the outskirts of the Gobi Desert. A 2,500 km road that ends with them meeting each other, a hug and their final “goodbye”.
