València Film Afers: Meet the Composer  is

València Film Afers: Meet the Composer is an initiative within the Mostra de València co-production forum, developed in collaboration with Spot the Composer- Cannes Film Festival. The program pioneers the integration of film music into a co-production forum, recognizing its essential role in audiovisual creation. Through this initiative, composers and filmmakers from Mediterranean countries are brought together, creating new opportunities for artistic and professional collaboration.

In doing so, València Film Afers strengthens its position as an innovative platform within Spain’s film lab and industry forum landscape. It also provides a unique opportunity to showcase the talent of Spanish film composers based in Spain, while supporting the growth of their international professional networks.

VALÈNCIA FILM AFERS – Meet the Composer will select up to five composers to participate in the fifth edition of VALÈNCIA FILM AFERS, held during the forum (November 8-11, 2026), as part of the 41st edition of Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani (November 3–15, 2026) and the International Film Music Congress.

To complete your application, please fill out the SUBMISSION FORM, which must be submitted no later than Monday, July 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. CET (noon). As this is an international forum, the form and all supporting documentation must be completed and submitted in English.

Los/as compositores/as seleccionados serán invitados a participar en VALÈNCIA FILM AFERS durante los días del foro (del 8 al 11 de noviembre de 2026), que coincide con la celebración  de la Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani y del del ‘Congreso Internacional de Música de Cine’, beneficiándose del entorno privilegiado que ofrece el certamen y aumentando así su visibilidad.

Selected composers will be invited to take part in VALÈNCIA FILM AFERS during the forum (November 8–11, 2026), held alongside the Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani and the International Film Music Congress. This unique convergence of industry events will provide participants with valuable networking opportunities and increased visibility within the international audiovisual and film music sectors.

La Mostra de València will cover travel and accommodation expenses for selected participants during the forum, subject to their active participation in the programme’s meetings, events, and screenings.

Selected participants will also be granted industry accreditation, providing access to all festival screenings and professional activities, including the International Film Music Congress.

THE FORUM

VALÈNCIA FILM AFERS organizes a public presentation of the selected projects for industry professionals, including the participants of València Film Afers: Meet the Composer.

Each selected film composer will:

  • Take part in a series of one-on-one meetings with the directors and producers of five projects participating in the forum. These meetings are designed to facilitate meaningful connections, allowing composers to showcase their work and explore potential creative collaborations.
  • Present his/her work during the “Listening Sessions” a public showcase featuring the selected musical projects. Attended by participants of the international forum and representatives of the Valencian music industry, these sessions provide a valuable platform for emerging talent to gain visibility, connect with industry professionals, and foster new opportunities for collaboration at both national and international levels.

Beyond the pitching/listencing sessions and individual meetings, participants will be invited to attend industry talks and curated networking events, offering further opportunities for professional exchange and collaboration throughout the Festival.

THE PRIZE

One of the participating composers will be selected by an international jury of audiovisual and music professionals to join the Cannes – Spot the Composer 2027 Emerging Composers Program, offering a unique opportunity for international professional development and networking.

The Prize includes:

  • Travel and accommodation in Cannes (3 nights).
  • Accreditation for the Marché du Film.
  • One-on-one meetings on-site with project leaders.
  • Workshops, masterclasses, and roundtables, as well as events organized specifically for Spot the Composer participants.
  • Cocktail receptions and networking events.
  • Musical showcases and “La Leçon de Musique,” exclusive events organized by SACEM

FAQ

Who is eligible to apply?

Film composers with at least one (1) credit as a composer on a feature-length fiction film, animated film, or documentary, who are Spanish citizens and reside in Spain.

In what language is the forum held?

  • English. Presentations and meetings will be conducted in English. Any video or audio materials shown during the presentation must include English subtitles. Composers must present their work in English and use English during meetings.

How do I create my playlist?

  • To create your playlist, upload up to 10 audio tracks using the registration form. The tracks must be numbered and labeled in the order in which you want them to be played.
  • You can choose to showcase different compositional styles or, if you prefer, have all the tracks come from a specific musical project.

What are the “Listening Sessions”/ ‘Sesiones de escucha’?

  • This is the venue where the selected music projects will be presented to the public. These sessions will be attended by both participants in the coproduction forum and representatives of the Valencian music industry. This event provides an opportunity to showcase new talent and facilitate connections with industry professionals, both nationally and internationally.

How many projects can a composer submit?

  • One application.

Who are the members of the selection committee?

  • The selection committee will consist of two representatives from the Mostra de València  team and at least two external professionals with recognized expertise and experience in the field of film music composition.
