On Christmas Eve in a small Spanish provincial town, the humble three-wheeler driver Plácido is hired to participate in a hypocritical charity campaign called "Sit a Poor Man at Your Table." Amidst the chaotic celebrations and the superficial generosity of the local bourgeois families, Plácido faces a desperate race against time: he must pay the first instalment of his vehicle before midnight, or he will lose his only means of livelihood.
