E fthimis Filippou was born in Athens, Greece, in January 1977. He has worked as a freelance journalist and is the author of five theatre plays, as well as several film scripts, among which we can highlight collaborations with the director Yorgos Lanthimos in Dogtooth (Kynodontas, 2009), Alps (Alpeis, 2011), for which he won an award for best script at the Venice Film Festival, The Lobster (2015), which was nominated for an Oscar or The Killling of a Sacred Deer (2017). In addition, he has worked alongside Babis Makridis in L (2012) and Pity (2018) and Athina Rachel Tsangari in Chevalier (2015). He is also the author of three short books, published for the first time outside of Greece in the volume Veinte corazones ganadores, edited in Spain by Walden Books. Efthimis Filippou has his own personal style, he cleverly mixes everyday facts with absurd ones, black and dry humour with the crudest violence, dystopia with surrealism and fantasy with the mundane.
